'maintaining radio silence' is the second release and first album proper by experimental
electronica artist ovo lacto. the fog-filled emptiness of 'internal step' opens the transmission, a beautiful yet forlorn
miasma of distant blinking lights, minimal static patterns and warped voices. we then drift into ever more abstract territories
with 'auditory dream', tonally reminiscent of searching for alien radio signals in deep space. the resulting reverie is awoken
by the harsh light of 'colossal man' with its frantic sirens and fractured tech-noise rhythms. unsettling looped alien voices
enter the frequency next with 'something illegal', clearing for a simple, melancholic melody of mathematical perfection. the
unhappy fallout culminates with the apocalyptic and nightmarish 'war upon us' as the album collapses in upon itself with maddening
noise and random fragments of sound. both a sonic vision of the future, and a soundtrack for the industrial dystopia and empty
wastelands we call home...evelyn records.
In less than half an hour, Ovo Lacto goes from disturbed post-Eno ambient music to otherwordly interferences from second
rate sci-fi movie soundtracks, again to crunching distortions and rhythmical abuses.the delicate, intriguing "Internal
step" opening this CD is alone worth the ticket price...Massimo Ricci, touchingextremes.org

Ovo Lacto, aka Richard Atkins from Wales. In a short time this is the second disc I have of him, and more than 'The Rubberplant
Soundtrack' release, this is a disturbing release. After two relatively mild opening pieces, 'Colossal Man' is a crude techno
like track and the other two remaining pieces are hoovering around spoken word samples of unknown content, and are less ambient
than the opening pieces, or the tracks on his previous CD...by Frans DeWaard, Vital Weekly
